After researching Rimbaud and learning about him for my presentation I noticed some similarities between us. Rimbaud wrote and published all of his works between the ages of 16 and 21 and then just abruptly stopped writing. Many people have speculated on why he did just this. I personally like the idea that he just ran out of things to say. I'm not by any means comparing myself to Rimbaud or my writing to his work. I did however write a lot of poems when I was young and then just slowly stoped. Sometimes I wonder why I had this desire burning in me so strongly to write when I was young and why it disappeared when I got older. I don't usually share my stuff with anyone besides close friends but I figured fuck it. I'll share a few.
"I have known"
Written sometime in 1999
I have known many so called wasted lives,
I have known many dope fiends that dwell
In the shit that comes out of society's asshole.
I know that no life is wasted as long as
You are doing what feels right for yourself.
Whatever that may be.
Some of the most intelligent people that I know
Stick needles in their veins
And some of the most unintelligent people that I know
Don't stick needles in their veins.
I have shared conversations, laughs, snipes,
Change and pain with the beautiful minds
That society righteously calls hopeless scum.
I have shared cement pillows and blankets of coats,
I have shared jail cells and rehabs with these hopeless junkies.
I have ran from cops and ran from marks
With these people that are forced to society's
Boot heels.
Some of the most brilliant minds are on the
Streets begging for change
Or in the stores stealing for cash.
Some of the most brilliantly creative minds
Are living on your streets
Eating from your garbage
And carrying their homes
In their back packs.
I have known people who have killed themselves.
I have known people who have killed people.
I have know people who have sold their souls
And sold their sex for the joy of the rush.
I have known the streets.
"I Need You"
1/26/99
I need you
Like a dog needs a dog house.
I need you
Like a mouse trap needs a mouse.
I need you
Like a song needs music.
I need you
Like a man needs sanity that is about to lose it.
I need you
Like a cut needs blood.
I need you
Like drought season needs a flood.
I need you
Like a junkie needs his fix.
I need you
Like Gary needs his kicks.
I need you
Like a heart that's been broken needs love.
I need you
Like a cold hand needs a glove.
I need you
Like a cop needs his gun.
I need you
Like boredom needs some fun.
I need you
Like a dirty ass needs to be washed.
I need you
Like a mosh pit needs to be moshed.
I need you
Like a stomach needs food.
I need you
Like a mood swing needs a mood.
I need you
Like sentences need words.
I need you
Like a fourth needs a third.
I need you
Like dreams need sleep.
I need you
Like society needs sheep.
I need you
Like money needs greed.
I need you
Like a stoner needs weed.
I need you
Like fear needs god.
I need you
Like heroin needs a nod.
I need you
Like those that can't think need violence.
I need you
Like tranquility needs silence.
I need you
Like a hunter needs his prey.
I need you
Like a hunter needs his pray.
I need you
Like a morning needs a day.
I need you
Like AIDS needs a cure.
I need you
Like good coke needs to be pure.
I need you
Like diarrhea needs constipation.
I need you
Like a tight hole needs lubrication.
I need you
Like a heart needs a beat.
I need you
Like winter needs heat.
I need you
Like an electric guitar needs an amp.
I need you
Like a light bulb needs a lamp.
I need you
Like breathing needs a breath.
I need you
Like life needs death.
Judge me like you will. That's fine with me. I just thought I'd share a couple different examples of some of the stuff that I wrote using different styles. Writing was my outlet for a long time. A big reason why I'm still here. I tried to write from my heart about my life experiences. Many of those experiences were dark ones. I made it out of the dark though. Most of the way out at least.
Comment:
While beginning to read these poems by this anonymous person, I came to find that it is you, Gary, who has written these poems, and I also remember you doing the presentation on Rimbaud!
I really enjoyed your poems to be completely honest, and I have no grammatical issues that I could find. There is a piece of your first poem that I really enjoyed however:
"I know that no life is wasted as long as
You are doing what feels right for yourself.
Whatever that may be."
I find this to be so true! Throughout your poem you strongly criticize society and its outlook on who is successful and who is intelligent. I praise you for your hard work and life experiences. I am glad to know you are out of your dark times, or most of the way at least :)
