Before this class, I had read probably three poems. I remember the first time I read a poem was when reading a book. The character had been inspired by the poem and after, I grasped the concept, so was I. "The Road Less Traveled By" by Robert Frost was the first poem that truly inspired me. Upon reading it over and over, I memorized it within the hour. When freshman year of high school rolled around and we needed to recite a poem, I knew exactly which one I would choose. Since then, I read poetry here and there, but I never really read into the metaphorical meaning, and even now the format confuses to me.
Honestly, since the beginning of this class, I have been confused. All the poems seem so different and the underlying meanings are sometimes hard to grasp. I think the techniques we learned today is really going to help me out. Transferring "The Legend" by Garret Hongo in Prose form helped me tremendously, to get the smaller details I would have missed.
Thanks Ted Oconell
